Con más de una década de experiencia como profesor y bailarín de lindy hop, DJ Gurutz enfoca sus sesiones desde el punto de vista del baile. Le gusta ver a la gente bailar y conectar con la música, por eso suele combinar ritmos lentos y rápidos, buscando un equilibrio que mantenga la pista activa y variada.
Un piano que juegue mucho y un background riff que sugiera hacer algún juego rítmico en el baile son piezas clave para que una canción esté entre sus favoritas.
Tiene especial interés en encontrar versiones menos conocidas de temas clásicos, que aporten matices nuevos sin perder su esencia. En sus sesiones es habitual escuchar algún mambo para cambiar el ambiente, y nunca faltan canciones de Duke Ellington y Johnny Hodges, dos referentes constantes en su selección musical.

With more than ten years’ experience as a Lindy Hop dancer and teacher, Gurutz Larrea knows how to use music to prime the dance-floor. He loves watching people connect to his music through dance, so often combines slow and fast rhythms to prise out that magic equilibrium that keeps us swinging all night long.
When choosing his favourites, he loves playfulness: “I hear the piano skipping over the background riff in a rhythmic dance game.”
His deep interest in dance music has led him to little-known versions of the classics, which contribute a more nuanced understanding of the essence of jazz. You’re likely to pick up on a mambo he’s slipped in to change the feel of the floor, and you’ll definitely hear Duke Ellington and Johny Hodges, his self-confessed favourites within his wide-ranging collections.
